Dr. Katie Sakamoto is a passionate pregnancy and pediatric chiropractor in Orange County, CA. She grew up in the high desert and was a cheerleader all throughout her life. When she was in middle school, her little sister, Riley, suffered from a radial nerve injury where her hand lost all motor function. Riley went through months of extensive occupational therapy and re-gained function of her hand and wrist. Since then, Dr. Katie knew she wanted to be in the health and healing space.
Dr. Katie graduated with a Bachelors of Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy from San Diego State University. During her time at SDSU, she volunteered with many different OT and PT clinics and led a class at the Adaptive Fitness Clinic on campus. She had the amazing opportunity to teach healthcare to high schools in Bali in 2018. In her last year at SDSU, she suffered a back injury which resulted in visiting a chiropractor. After just one visit she was able to move without pain and instantly knew that this was the profession for her.
For her Doctorate of Chiropractic, she attended Southern California University of Health Sciences and graduated Magna Cum Laude in the top fifth percentile of her class. In school, she was the president of many clubs including the Pediatric Chiropractic club, an honors society for students with a GPA of 3.8 and higher and the California Chiropractic Association. Family Wellness
We have come to appreciate over the years the importance of spinal health and its link to prevention of injury. what most people do not realize is that chiropractic is a health care modality that provides significantly more than just a solution for pain. Chiropractic is a way of life that involves all aspects of wellness including exercise, nutrition, personal development, stress relief, etc, for all individuals just born to the elderly.
Our Primary Focus is in family wellness, particularly perinatal and pediatric chiropractic care! I love working with families feel well through their journies. ALL are welcome: moms, dads, babies, toddlers, kids and young adults!
dr. calahan has taken an extra 200 hour certification on perinatal and pediatric adjusting through the icpa to effectively care for this special population.
Webster Technique
Chiropractic care during pregnancy can be beneficial for the normal physiological function of the mother and baby. During pregnancy, chiropractic care focuses on alignment and balance in the musculoskeletal structures of the pelvis. Proper pelvic alignment helps the mother have an easier pregnancy and can also ease the birth process! This is done through the Webster technique.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments. This optimizes uterine function and allows for a safer, easier birth. Dr. Calahan has completed her Certification of the Webster technique Through the ICPA.
Chiropractic Adjustments
Chiropractic care is focused on removing nerve dysfunction, so we can move and function at our highest potential. A chiropractic adjustment is a type of manual therapy that seeks to realign joint subluxations. Subluxations are small positional changes in the joint with accompanying decrease in motion and soft tissue tension.
a Chiropractic adjustment is the application of a precise movement to a specific part of the joint that corrects the subluxation, permitting normal nerve transmission and assisting your body to heal on its own.. adjustments also serve to improve movement within a subluxation, or restricted joint. Joint motion can become restricted for a variety of reasons, which can lead to decreased range of motion and musculoskeletal pain. Adjustments can improve tissue elasticity, reduce muscle spasms, improve joint articulation, and reduce pain.
